Coaching in Expository Sermon Prep!

“Will you coach me in expository preaching?"

This was the question asked of me by Pastor Joseph Blasco.  We met at the local Costa Coffee on Wednesday as he deeply desires to improve in his sermon prep and preaching skills.

Pastor Joe shared with me that one of the reasons for leaving his beloved island of Palawan to serve in Manila was in order to learn to preach better. He especially wants to learn expository preaching and there were no examples of this kind of preaching there.. So we have embarked on a journey of sorts to discover what I call “The Process”.

I have designed an exegetical and exposition method to help coach an eager preacher to improve and to become an Approved Workman (2 Timothy 2:15).

We have created a countdown to December 24th calendar and Joe is following a 5 phase, multiple step plan to be ready for practicing his sermon a week before he needs to deliver it on Dec. 24th. I will be in CA for the holidays, but I’ll ask others to evaluate his delivery.  Pray for Pastor Joe as he prepares and for me as I coach him along the way. Thanks for praying!

Partnering to Train Seminarians

We enjoyed Pastor Vincent “Ced” Castillo’s sermon on end times events.  He emphasized our need to live with Christ’s imminent return on our heart and in our mind even today and everyday to effect our witness and walk of holiness.

Pastor Vincent will partner with me in January or February in training seminarians by presenting a special overview presentation on Revelation.

Please pray for Vincent, his wife Cristia and their little boy Cedie as they serve among the youth at Emmanuel Baptist. Thanks for praying!

First Ever EBC Ministry Enrichment Seminars in 2018

During the EBC Thanksgiving Fellowship prayer time, the pastors were put together for prayer.  We talked and prayed over various personal items. I was pleased to join prayer with these men of God.

They have invited me to participate in their first ever EBC Ministry Enrichment Seminar in February 2018 as one of the training seminar speakers. The training event focus will be on making disciples.

Those in attendance will be lay pastors and ministry leaders from all EBC church plants and preaching stations, plus those serving at Emmanuel Baptist.

Plans are just now in development but I sense the EBC leadership is recognizing this is a great need for their workers, members and the church plant pastors too.

There is also a need to provide gifts of a Study Bible and a practical ministry book to all those in attendance.  We hope to bring those Bibles and books back  from CA with us after the holidays.  More on how you might be able to help with that need soon.  Thanks for praying.

Emmanuel Baptist's Thanksgiving Fellowship

EBC Thanksgiving Fellowship - Here I caught Kim and Cristia Castillo, Pastor Vincent’s wife, in conversation and getting to know one another better.

Thanksgiving Fellowship was a special evening of games, message, prayer, testimonies of gratefulness for the Lord’s grace and provisions. Thanksgiving is not celebrated in the Philippines, but some churches like EBC have adopted a version of this holiday.

Please be in prayer for deepening friendships and partnership in ministry in 2018. Thanks for praying!

Partnering for a Generational Legacy

A premier verse related to passing on the baton of ministry to the next generation is 2 Timothy 2:2, "The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also."

When you join us in prayer ministry and regular financial partnership, you are investing in a movement of equipping a new generation for Christ and thereby partnering in a legacy for future ministry in the Philippines and beyond.

The seminarians Robert equips at BBSI are training for their calling to serve with excellence. The missionary kids Kim works with at Faith Academy need an education and to be challenged with the truth of the gospel, even while their parents serve in ministries all over the Philippines.

We are presently down in support by about 5% of our needs, which is common after arriving to the mission field again even after a long and fruitful furlough.  To invest in this work, simply click the button to go to ABWE's secure online donation page.  There you can arrange automatic monthly support.  All support donations are tax-deductible.

Click on the Equip logo and you will be directed to our website to know more about the vital ministries we are involved with in Manila and beyond.  It's been said that the Philippine Islands are the "gateway to Asia". Well, in regards to the gospel being taken to Asia that could very well be true as many young Filipino men and women are preparing for ministry even as missionaries in other Asian countries.  They need our prayers!  We need to help prepare them.  Click on the button to see my new ministry blog..."THRIVE!".
