Lead in School Drinking Water

Lead is a potent neurotoxin that is commonly present in our environment and can have serious cognitive and behavioral impacts, particularly in children. The resources listed on this new NCCEH topic page are intended to assist public health practitioners in understanding the issues around lead in drinking water, highlight the approaches taken to addressing lead, and provide practical advice on testing and mitigating lead exposure in homes and schools.

Public Health and Industry: Partners in Reducing Lead Exposure

This video presentation uses Flint, Michigan, as a case study to examine the factors leading up to a public health disaster, and discusses how the drinking water treatment industry and public health professionals can collaborate to reduce Canadians’ risk of lead exposure.

Drinking Water in Schools and Day-care Centers

Earlier this summer, Laval University's Water Research Centre hosted a series of presentations concerning the health impacts of contaminated drinking water for children in schools and day-care centres. The full webinar and the speakers' presentation materials are all available online.
