The Way of the Heart: Oak Life Updates

The Way of The Heart

On Sunday Gina led us in a reflection around empathy, inviting us into the process of understanding over judgment, something that our divided world desperately needs.  This week we're starting a new series called "The Way of the Heart" where we hope to learn together how our inner lives affect our outer selves.  As we engage ideas like the soul, dealing with shame, our implicit biases, and dwelling in the presence of God, our hope is that we'll be transformed more into the likeness of Jesus, something that begins in our hearts.

As always there are lots of things going on in our community beyond Sundays, be sure to read below and also sign up for our next Project Peace Day of Service on August 19th!

Things Going on In and Through Oak Life:

Help Make Posters for Oakland Pride:  Join a group of us this Saturday, Aug 12 at 11:45am for Creative Mornings. Location: Oak Life Office 337 17th St. Oakland. A bunch of us will paint, draw, cut, glue and maybe even glitter some posters with a message of apology. The posters will be our way of showing the LGBT+ we are sorry for the way Christians have often treated them. This is how spiritual healing begins. We will make the posters Saturday and walk around the Oakland Pride Festival on Sunday, 9/10 after church. Questions? Call or text Ed Ness at 510-575-8724.

Volunteering at Oak Life:  Pretty much everything that happens in Oak Life is a result of folks from the community participating in making us what we are.  We're currently in need of some more volunteers in areas like music, coffee, set up, and media.  If you're rooted at Oak Life we hope you'll commit to volunteer on one of these teams at least once every other month or so.  If you'd like to volunteer or get more info email Greg:
