Chichester Harbour Race Week 2017   21-25 August

Hello from the Race Week promotion team

Just one day to go! On-line entries for this year's Race Week open tomorrow, March 1. The good news is that fees have remained the same as in 2016, and the big early bird discount is available again for everyone who enters before July 1.

See the website for the Notice of Race, which gives full information, but the essentials are: competitors divided into four series, A for the faster boats, B for medium speed, C for the smallest, D for RSElite and XOD keelboats. Committee boat starts and separate courses for each series (the keelboats race later in the day, separately from the dinghies).

Within the series there is class and handicap racing, catering for modern and classic designs, with a single long race a day for all but the youngest competitors (in Oppis and RSTeras), who have two shorter races. New for 2017 is the division of the medium handicap fleet - one of the most popular last year - into two: single-handed and double-handed. So there are extra prize plates to be won! And classes with 10 or more full-week entrants signed up by July 31 can apply for their own start.

The emphasis is on good racing, but this isn’t a championship – the aim is for everyone, at every level, to enjoy the sailing.

Host club Hayling Island SC has plenty of boat parking (and free car parking), sandy launching (the beach is also great for families), hot food and drink all day and great views of the racing from the clubhouse balconies. There are social events each evening - live bands, a return by popular request of the 2016 steel band and BBQ afternoon, the renowned Thursday disco.

We’ll be spreading the word about Race Week 2017 to as many dinghy sailors, clubs and classes as we can at the RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show this coming weekend, March 4-5, distributing hundreds of informative flyers. If you’d like some to share with your club or class members, please get in touch via the email address at the bottom of this newsletter.
