| And the winners are... Envision Birmingham’s Community-Apprentice competition '16/17 came to a close last week at a final awards ceremony at The Council House. Four finalists had pitched to leader of the City Council, John Clancy, in his boardroom - and he, along with his supporting judges, decided that Eco-Freakos from Swanshurst School had gone above and beyond all others this year. Skills on Show too! All 21 teams from our 10 schools on Community-Apprentice were nominated for a range of skills awards, reflecting the six core competencies developed throughout the competition. The categories were highly competitive and judges had a tough time choosing a winner in each. Below is a rundown of award winners, the issues they chose and links to the films they made illustrating their community impact and achievements. They were presented with their winning trophies at the Community-Apprentice awards last week.

Team Human2Human Swanshurst School Concerned that refugees faced a tough time in settling in the UK, they linked up with a Birmingham sanctuary and ran English sessions to help them integrate more easily. Watch their Digital

The Year in Numbers - It's been a BIG one! Your support has enabled over 240 young people to realise their potential to change their city for the better. Along with this, you have helped them to develop the key skills needed to do this, and to go on to positive outcomes in their future careers. Collectively, this year's Community Apprentices volunteered over 18,000 hours and fundraised over £5,300. Our 135 Business Mentors and 15 community volunteers helped the young people's projects to reach an astounding 9,360 people - spanning all ages, races and religions.
