Catching Up with Seminary Graduates!

Upon our return from our visit to CA we jumped right back into our teaching schedule at the seminary and Faith Academy.  We were extremely busy trying to get settled back into routine and fight off the flu symptoms we had acquired too!  But, that didn't keep us from getting some time with former students.  One of mine is transitioning to a new ministry outside of the area. You will recall that Michael Villanueva partnered with me in our Approved Workman Training seminar up in Baquio City a few years ago.

I enjoyed catching up over lunch on Friday with Michael. He has served at Messiah Baptist Church (which uses BBSI’s chapel for services) for 4+ years and now Michael will move to Binan, Laguna near Manila airport.  This will be his internship and he will serve as pastor to young professionals, plus basketball outreach and preaching and teaching as well. Please pray for Michael as he serves the Lord in this new ministry opportunity.

Another Seminary Grad is Serving in Jerusalem!

Michael informed me too that his good friend and my other former student Jojo Jose is presently in an internship with a Filipino congregation in Jerusalem, Israel! Apparently there are quite a number of Filipinos in Jerusalem.

Jojo just got his long term visa to stay and serve at least another year. Please pray for these fantastic young men who are serving the Lord here and abroad. Thanks for praying!

Catching Up with Faith Academy Graduates!

For those FA graduates who have family or friends still serving in the Philippines, the holiday season provides an opportunity to stop by and renew friendships.  Sometimes they also take time to catch up with FA teachers just before they return to their colleges in mid-January.

This was the case with former FA students Hannah Johnson and Stephen Bayot.  Hannah's family served here with World Vision for many years and she now attends Bethel University in MN.  Hannah and our girls Kelly and Kaitlyn were friends at FA. Hannah and Kelly were in many school plays, musicals and concerts together.

Hannah will study abroad in Cyprus, but on her way there she has the opportunity to visit friends around the world before beginning her elementary education program with Bethel University.

Stephen now attends University of the Philippines and will study civil engineering.  Stephen was one of Kim's top math students and won an award with his math skills as well.  It was a great encouragement for Kim to reconnect with these FA grads!  Please continue to pray for them and for new opportunities for Kim to influence other students with the gospel on a daily basis!  Thanks for praying!

"Will You Offer Training in Iloilo City in the Future?"

New opportunities for training are on the horizon for 2018 and confirmation for pressing forward on this keeps showing up from unexpected sources.  Back in November our director, Steve Mayo, informed us that Baptist leaders from Iloilo City/Doane Seminary would like us to hold training seminars in 2018 for pastors in need of help with their preaching skills. Seems they are recognizing that after seminary these pastors are so inundated with work in many directions that their exegetical and interpretive skills have diminished.  They need encouragement.

Now Michael also informed me the other day that his senior pastor at his home church in Iloilo says he and others need training related to exegetical method and expository sermon prep.  Michael was wondering when we might arrange something like in Iloilo City,  which we offered in Baguio City a few years ago (pictured below).  Apparently a good number of pastors need this kind of jump-start or refresher training as they look to improve their preaching ministry.

I informed Michael that this request corroborates requests we have received from others in the upper leadership of the denomination.  We are presently trying to arrange an updated version of Approved Workman Training in 2018.  We would ask you to pray for us as we make plans potentially for the summer months of April & May.

A Huge Thank You to O&P Supporters!

Because of the response of over 25 supporters to this need over the last 10 months we were able to reach the goal set for our Outfitting & Passage Fund before the end of 2017!

Just today we located a good used ministry vehicle and so we are looking forward to finalizing the purchase this next week.  Other expenses such as for visa costs are still in process and we would ask to pray for us as we attempt to solidify our new two year 9G Missionary Visa.

Can You Sponsor a Resource(s) for the ME Seminar?

We need training resources for the attendees of our Ministry Enrichment Seminar in February.  If you can help, then please click the button to our Amazon List and choose the resource(s) you can help us with.  We have the following needs for resources to help our trainees in February:
~ NKJV Holman Study Bibles (We have 2 and need 13 more!),
~ Spiritual Depression by Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (We have 1 and need 14 more!), and
~ Nine Marks of a Healthy Church by Dr. Mark Dever (We have 3 and need 12 more!)
The goal is 15 of each as soon as possible, since it takes time sending them to Manila!

Your  purchased book or books will be sent by Amazon to our good friend and supporter Jonathan Stout, in Murrieta, CA who is our point person for the resources.  Through this ME seminar the leadership of Emmanuel Baptist hopes to strengthen and encourage those who serve in EBC's numerous church plants, outreach & small group ministries.  Thanks so much for your help in this training effort!  (PS - the list doesn't seem to work correctly from an iPhone link, so please connect via a web browser on a laptop or desktop computer)

Partnering for a Generational Legacy!

The seminarians Robert equips at BBSI are training for their calling to serve with excellence. The missionary kids Kim works with at Faith Academy need an education and to be challenged with the truth of the gospel, even while their parents serve in ministries all over the Philippines.

Out of 2 Timothy 2:2 we find a premier related to the passing of the baton of ministry to the next generation... "The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also."

When you join us in prayer ministry and regular financial partnership, you are investing in a movement of equipping a new generation for Christ and thereby partnering in a legacy for future ministry in the Philippines and beyond.

We are presently down in support by about 5% of our needs, which is common after arriving to the mission field again even after a long and fruitful furlough.  To invest in this work, simply click the button to go to ABWE's secure online donation page.  There you can arrange automatic monthly support.  All support donations are tax-deductible.
