Emmanuel Baptist Men's League Bible Study

Two Sundays ago we hosted the second EBC Men's League Bible Study.  Looks like this will work out very well for us to host it.  We aren't so far away from the church and the environment of this house we are renting lends itself to a relaxed and inviting atmosphere.  This is essentially an answer to prayer during our whole furlough, namely, that we would be able find a home that would allow us to comfortably host gatherings and Bible studies and training events.  Thank you to those who prayed for that.  it's been great to see these men gathering again on a regular basis.

On "The Most Profound Truth in the Universe"

Last Sunday I preached at Emmanuel Baptist Church. The sermon's emphasis was on the biblical doctrine of the Deity of Christ.  I was given the opportunity to preach from the Book of John 1:1-5 and it was entitled, "The Most Profound Truth in the Universe", which it truly is!

This was a challenging message to pull together after the 2 messages for the R.C. Thomas Lectures the week before and with end of the semester projects & lectures at the seminary.

Yet, I sensed the Lord's peace and a confidence as I studied and then pulled this message together.  I believe it met particular needs in the congregation as several of the leaders said they were encouraged by this sermon.  Please pray for the Lord to use this profound truth in the lives of the EBC family as they serve and witness in the community.

And Now For Something Completely Different

While poking along in Manila traffic I see some amazing things and sometimes I can get a picture.  These appeared to be gentlemen of retirement age taking time around 8am on a Friday to play a few games of chess. They were sitting on the concrete wall of the bridge over a creek in Antipolo City!  They were very intense about their game while others were sitting nearby and waiting their turn.  They do have lots of fun in the Philippines! But with a game of chess the fun can take a long time! :)

Christmas Countdown Begins in the Philippines!

Christmas countdown begins early in the Philippines! On September 1st we begin to hear Christmas music in the malls. Then gradually, but not so gradually this year, decorations start to show up. Then a countdown sign appears!

With 4 months before Christmas this proves what I wondered about Filipinos... they are 1/3 Who!

The Who's in Whoville (of Dr. Suess fame) started a countdown to the next Christmas the day after last Christmas. Filipinos start celebrating on September 1st. The music is a mix of secular and sacred. I heard Frosty the Snowman and then The First Noel while waiting in line. But I'm glad they have no problem playing the biblically-based Christmas carols.

By the way, I took this picture 10 days ago and saw today the countdown shows 90 days left! Have you made your Christmas list yet?  Started shopping?  Lots of fun in the Philippines!

Donated Chromebooks Delivered to BBSI!

Here I am pictured with BBSI faculty members as I delivered the 11 Chrome Books that were donated to the seminary while we were on furlough last year.  After our balikbayan boxes arrived from CA with these laptops in them we eventually powered them up and checked them out.  Only one had a mechanical problem with the power mechanism and is getting repaired. These will be set up in a corner of the library for use by seminarians so they can do research and assignments.

When we first arrived back I found out that someone had donated 10 desktop computers to BBSI (for junior high and high school students in the Institute side).  They are set up in a room next to mine.  So, now the seminary students will have opportunity to do their work through these laptops! There are many students that don't have computers or phones, etc.  Praise the Lord for His further provisions to the training of seminarians who will be the future leaders in His church around the Philippines.

Partners in a Generational Legacy

A premier verse related to passing on the baton of ministry to the next generation is 2 Timothy 2:2, "The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also."

When you join us in prayer ministry and regular financial partnership, you are investing in a movement of equipping a new generation for Christ and thereby partnering in a legacy for future ministry in the Philippines and beyond.

The seminarians Robert equips at BBSI are training for their calling to serve with excellence. The missionary kids Kim works with at Faith Academy need an education and to be challenged with the truth of the gospel, even while their parents serve in ministries all over the Philippines.

To invest in this work, simply click the button to go to ABWE's secure online donation page.  There you can arrange automatic monthly support.  All support donations are tax-deductible.

Click on the Equip logo and you will be directed to our website to know more about the vital ministries we are involved with in Manila and beyond.  It's been said that the Philippine Islands are the "gateway to Asia". Well, in regards to the gospel being taken to Asia that could very well be true as many young Filipino men and women are preparing for ministry even as missionaries in other Asian countries.  They need our prayers!  We need to help prepare them.
