Volunteer Opportunity: Library Champions Program | NewToBC Are you a new immigrant looking for: • Canadian volunteer work experience? • More confidence? • Online access to community and library resources? • New friends and connections to the community? • Better communication skills? • A better understanding of your community?
The Library
Champions Project (LCP) is a three-month volunteer program for new immigrants. During the project, Library Champions are trained to conduct outreach to other new immigrants. The LCP‘s four training sessions focus on building communication, presentation, and outreach skills and on gaining an understanding of the range of programs, services, and resources that are provided by libraries and immigrant and community service agencies. To become a Library Champion you must attend an information session. Register for an information session using the button below.

Diwali Family Day Celebration

The Canadian Immigrant Fair is Coming to Vancouver Next Month
November 3, 2022 | 10:00am - 3:00pm | Vancouver Convention Centre | Free admission, but registration is required It is a free, one-stop event connecting newcomers with information and inspiration on the three pillars of immigrant success: CAREERS. EDUCATION. SETTLEMENT. The fair offers a dynamic environment for immigrants who need support as they look for jobs, go back to school and settle into their new home. What you‘ll find at the fair include: hiring employers and recruiters looking for workers, career tips and coaching, English language help, immigration and settlement help, small business resources, and much more.

All the Trades are in crisis: 50% of existing trades are retiring. That means there are a lot of opportunities for new talent to enter the trades, and begin well-paying and rewarding careers. From carpentry to concrete, from highly specialized to classic trades, there will be many employers looking to recruit both new and experienced tradespeople. Explore interactive exhibits, talk to the trades, handle the tools, interact directly with employers looking for talent, and learn about training opportunities.

38-Week IT General Programming Diploma
Cohort 1: October 31, 2022 - July 21, 2023 || Cohort 2: November 28, 2022 - August 25, 2023 This free, government-funded and full-time diploma program focuses on preparing students to work as a programmer requiring the application of current industry policies, practices, procedures, and tools. Upon successful completion, students will have demonstrated the ability to apply theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills in industry-standard programming languages, database design and application, fundamentals of object-oriented programming, HTML, JavaScript, and practical software applications. • 29 weeks of training in Occupations Skills • 6 weeks of hands-on practicum workplace training • 2 weeks of follow-up Job Search Support

16-Week Public Works Technician Training | Project-Based Labour Market Training Program (PBLMT)
Program Date: November 28, 2022 - March 17, 2023 Participants will receive training and work experience in occupational skills related to public works, working safely, use of tools and equipment, environmental best practices, as well as maintaining and repairing roads and sidewalks, water systems, sanitary and storm sewer systems, building maintenance, parks and recreation facilities, and fire protection systems. Essential skills specifically related to public works will be embedded throughout the training. • 9 weeks of virtual and in-person academic training (Live Virtual) • 1 week of short-term certifications (Hybrid) • 1 week of job support (Live Virtual) • 4 weeks of work experience with local employers (In-Person)
