Bald Eagles in the City!
Did you know that there are several active Bald Eagle nesting sites in Vancouver Parks?

Each January to February, the same Bald Eagles return to previous nest sites to prepare a nest for the breeding season.  Thanks to dedicated park stewards who monitor these nests, we know that Vanier and Jericho will host a pair and their new off-spring again this year.  Between early February to March the female will lay 2-3 eggs.  Hatching starts in late April after approximately 36 days of incubation.  The young stay in the nest for about 12 weeks before fledging.

Eagles are very sensitive to disturbance during their nesting season (February-August). Due to eagle sensitivity, Park Board staff have posted signs in Vanier, Jericho and Locarno Park. These signs share key considerations to observe within 30 meters of a nest. Key considerations to remember include:

o Avoiding loud noises and amplified music
o Do not disturb or remove vegetation
o No drones or fireworks
o Keep dogs on-leash

If you see activities that disturb the eagles please email us at parkstewards@vancouver.ca or call 3-1-1.

Trout Lake Volunteer Event

Where

Trout Lake, Vancouver, BC, Canada

Description

Wildcoast Ecological Society will be hosting their next volunteer event at Trout Lake from 10:00AM to 1:00PM! The event will focus on removing blackberry and other invasive plants as part of a project to help repair the lake and its sensitive ecosystem.

Tools, gloves, snacks and drinks will be provided. Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear close-toed shoes. It may be more 'soggy' this time of year so rubber boots will be handy as well. Since we're dealing with blackberry, long sleeves and pants are recommended too.

The more the merrier...for us anyway. The blackberry might think otherwise!

HOW TO FIND THE GROUP
Meet at the swimming beach area on the south end of the lake. Look for the Wildcoast tent! For more information about the project and volunteering, email: admin@wildcoastecological.com
