| Disabled Independent Gardeners Association operates in Metro Vancouver BC, offers workshops, garden tours, customized adaptive tools, and their volunteers work one-on-one with DIGA members tending to fully accessible plots in community gardens. Their community gardens have wheelchair-accessible pathways and raised beds. Many also offer roll-under table-top gardens. There is no charge to become a member or to participate.
Gardening offers quality of life benefits and social inclusion when working together in community gardens, which is why DIGA encourages active participation, from planning their garden, tending to plants, and sharing their harvests with the support of helpful volunteers.
|
|
|
DIGA's knowledgeable volunteers can advise and support gardening, lend a hand tending to gardens or arrange custom garden tools for people with physical disabilities. Join them at workshops and or tend a plot at one of the Community Gardens listed below.

Indigenous Plant Use Where Stanley Park Dining Pavilion Description Discover Spapayeq (Stanley Park)—the traditional, and unceded land of the Musqueam, Squamish Nation, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nation people.
Walk through the forest and bathe in Coast Salish knowledge of cedar and hemlock, learning through storytelling. Continue the walk down to Xwáýxway (Lumberman‘s Arch) beach at low tide and explore the incredibly diverse and abundant kelp forests available in the intertidal zone. The exploration continues along the seawall up to Axachu7 (Beaver Lake) as you learn about the edible, medicinal, and survival uses of plants as well as the traditional and present-day Indigenous relationships with local flora and fauna.
While there will be no plant collection on these educational walks, Spapayeq offers a perfect setting to learn about sustainable harvesting.

Birds of a Feather: February Flyers Where Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC, Canada Description Stanley Park‘s resident birds have been persevering through the winter while others, like many of the ducks, begin to prepare for their annual northern migration.
Join us for a two-hour, easy walking exploration to learn about migratory bird identification and behaviour.
We gratefully acknowledge that the land on which we gather and work is the unceded and unsurrendered territories of the Coast Salish peoples, including the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nation, and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. For thousands of years, Coast Salish people have walked this land and walked with it in a good way, harvesting foods and medicines and made good ceremony here. The abundance that these lands and waters provide us to live, work and play is due to the reciprocal relationships by which Coast Salish people lived
and live today.
