Here is a really effective way to raise funds for the IAPA which will only cost you a little of your time:

Happy New Year, Indigenous - Aboriginal Party of Australia (IAPA) members,

Could you make a simple short video on your phone explaining why people should donate to the IAPA?

You may remember that during the formation of the IAPA and leading up to our first election in May, 2022, we ran a crowd-funder through the Australian social enterprise called Chuffed. With 2000 small donations were able to keep completely independent and uncompromised by big donations from business, powerful individuals or other self interested organisations.

In the lead up to January 26, Chuffed runs a promotion for all its Indigenous clients based around the theme of "Don't Celebrate - Donate!" Combined with their 'Amplify' service, this was very successful for the IAPA, raising all the funds required to set up the Party and contest the election. In the 3 years since then the general running expenses of the IAPA have mostly been funded by Party volunteers themselves.

We are planning to repeat the success of those previous Chuffed Campaigns leading up to this January 26, raising funds for the federal election which will be some time on or before the 17 May, 2025.

Chuffed 'Amplify' is very effective because it uses their database of email contacts of people likely to be sympathetic to our cause and also runs a lot of social media advertising on our behalf, taking our message out to new potential donors and potential members. It uses an algorithm to only charge their 'Amplify' fee on new donors, but to be sure, if you have donated before, please donate directly to the IAPA rather than via the new January 26 campaign.

During the campaign, Chuffed starts with videos similar to the ones prepared by IAPA founder and Convenor, Uncle Owen Whyman above https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPrF3DswCIY and https://youtu.be/Vw-knS4U934?si=V-r5xEcj4qZo0IT8 During the campaign, it is more effective if new videos exploring different aspects of the need for an Indigenous party are show-cased.

That is where you deadly members can help:

(Of course our Executive, candidates and volunteers are working on their videos but we would like the perspectives of our members too.)

Could you please make a short (or long) video explaining why you think the IAPA is necessary, and why people should donate and/or join, which can be used at the start or during the campaign. The main thing is to be genuine but it helps if you can include some or all of the ideas listed in the next sections.

Yours in the fight,

Jonathan Cookson (Jono),
Meeanjin / Brisbane IAPA Volunteer,
IAPA Deputy Registered Officer,

Are you ready to make a simple short (or longer if you want) video promoting your Party?

Please remember we are very grateful for whatever you are able to do or are prepared to do. The ideas, suggestions and requests below will simply make it easier for Chuffed to raise the money we need to grow the IAPA faster:

(1) Relax and have fun

We're grateful for whatever you can do as long as you realise the IAPA or Chuffed may need to edit it or we might not be able to use everything you provide. (With your permission we could possibly use it on social media instead or as well.)

Also remember that Chuffed advertises to people who are likely to be sympathetic to Indigenous people and Indigenous causes. So appearing in these videos is highly unlikely to cause you to be targeted negatively in any way. And of course you are completely in control of how much identifying information you choose to give.

(2) A simple 'video selfie' is fine

A 'video selfie' format is fine but if you would like to 'interview' someone and film that or have a friend film you doing an 'interview' that would be great too. Use the phone of the friend with the best camera! Filming an interesting scene (say an environment you wish to protect) with you doing the 'voice over' can be really interesting. You don't have to show your face if you don't want to but personal appeals with your face, in at least some of it, do seem to work best on social media.

(3) Introduce yourself if you like

Introducing yourself, your people and roughly where you come from is great but not essential. Use a greeting and farewell in your local language if that feels right for you.

(4) Name our Party (and Chuffed)

You can call our Party by the full name or just 'The Indigenous Party' or the Acronym or whatever you feel comfortable with. 'The Indigenous Party of Australia' is an official abbreviation with the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC). If you don't want to mention 'Australia' around January 26, that's fine too - just leave it out.

(Please remember our crowd-funding platform is Chuffed at the moment - not that other well-known one which starts with 'G'.)

(5) Background:

Choose an interesting background (especially outdoors) if you can. Sometimes that can mean there are problems with background noise but you can check that when you play it back.

(6) A simple script or notes:

It can help to write a simple script or make notes first but winging it can be good too. See what you think when you play it back.

(7) What to talk about

Your particular issues:

Talk about a particular issue which you think the IAPA will help with or a collection of issues in your local area. For instance you might like to talk about the punitive rather than preventative approaches to youth justice being implemented in Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory, the abolition of the 'Truth-telling and Healing Inquiry' in Queensland or the appalling Indigenous suicide and child removal rates in Victoria.

   and/or about January 26:

And/or talk about the date January 26 and what it means to you if you would like to. That will tie in well with the themes of the promotion. Please use the catch-cry 'Don't Celebrate - Donate!' if you feel comfortable with that.

and/or your take on the current political climate:

Talk about the current political climate and the racist backlash if you would like to. That will probably help with donations. Feel free to get stuck in to the various racist 'dog-whistles' coming from the opposition leader and others e.g. not wanting to stand in front of the Aboriginal and Zenadth Kes flags and reneging on dual naming of military establishments. Feel free to be funny and cheeky to get your point across.

(8) Editing

Don't worry too much about editing unless it's easy for you. The people at Chuffed have the expertise and better equipment to do it more easily. If you have a few takes, and some are better in some areas but none are perfect, send them all.

(9) Play it back - you might need a few takes

Please play back what you have done and ask yourself: (a) Can I hear it? (b) Is the picture clear enough? (c) Does it make sense? (d) Would it make me donate to or join the IAPA? If not please have another go. If you try a few times and are getting sick of it, try again another day or send us what you've got anyway. The people at Chuffed can probably edit something up out of it or will know that it's far better than you realise.

(10) Dropbox

https://www.dropbox.com/request/W7zHWgUTfgkS3sBN074f

When you have your video please use the Dropbox File Request link above to load it up.

Please trust us that this is the easiest way to get the video to us and the quality will be better than with emailing. You DON'T need to have Dropbox installed on your phone (or anywhere) to use the link.

Please label the video so we can find it easily. If you have other questions, really want to send the video a different way, or want to add comments or instructions or limitations on how we can use the video please also send an email to indigenouspartyofaustralia@gmail.com

Good luck with it and we thank you for giving it a go.
