| Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) Membership Testing starts this week:
Dear IAPA Members,
Please confirm you are an IAPA member if the AEC emails, then possibly phones you, as part of their random selection process.

|
|
Between elections, parties like ours which do not yet have parliamentary representatives are required to prove that they have more than 1500 members. We number more than 3100 and have recently contested elections so we are definitely a valid party. However the AEC assesses this via a statistical process.

| |
|
|
| As you can see it's a fickle process so it's important that you don't deny you are a member of our party when you are contacted. If you have had second thoughts or your circumstances have changed since we submitted you to the AEC as a member back in May, please don't let the AEC be the first people you tell because a very few 'denials' can be enough to sink our our submission. Please confirm that you are a member and follow up later by contacting us directly if you need to discontinue. If you have decided to leave the IAPA since we submitted in May, denying you are a member now would not give a fair picture of our numbers.

Just to give you a little more information about the AEC process from now:
(1) The AEC randomises the membership list provided by us. The size of the random sample is determined by the number of members left on the list after the AEC has excluded names for various reasons.
(2) Party members are contacted starting from the top of the randomised list. In the first instance emails are sent to those members with an email address. If no response is received after 24-48 hours the member will be contacted via phone.
(3) Contact is attempted on three separate occasions. If after the third attempt the member is still uncontactable they are deemed a non-response (not a denial) and the next consecutive person on the list is contacted. Phone contact is continued in this way until the required number of contacts
is reached.
In closing, all the the Executive, candidates, founders (all pictured above) and volunteers would like to sincerely thank our deadly fellow members for co-operating with this process, especially if you are randomly selected by the AEC, and for all the support and patience you show in building this historic party together. Already yesterday morning one member has CCed us in on her affirmative email response to the AEC.
If anyone has any questions or we can assist in any way, please contact us on: indigenouspartyofaustralia@gmail.com
Or if you are even more interested in the detail, the membership testing process is outlined at Appendix 2 of the AEC's Guide for registering a party, available at: https://www.aec.gov.au/Parties_and_Representatives/Party_Registration/guide/files/party-registration-guide.pdf
