Earth Day Event | Hoy/Scott Watershed Society & City of Coquitlam

Sat, April 22 | 11:00am – 3:00 pm | Lot C, Town Centre Park
Meet stewards of our local streams, Hoy and Scott Creeks, as Society volunteers will share their challenges and successes of operating a salmon hatchery in the middle of Coquitlam's City Centre. Learn how you can help take care of our watersheds to ensure the safety of the region's salmon.

This year there will also be compost workshops, children's activities and environmental education displays. The compost demonstration workshops will take place at the nearby Inspiration Garden at 11:30am and 1:30pm. The City will have free compost bags to give to Coquitlam residents.

Conversation and Connection Sessions at the Coquitlam Library, with the VoiceStory Foundation

Thurs, April 27 | 6:30pm - 8:00pm | Coquitlam Library, City Centre Branch
The VoiceStory series is about putting away cell phones, disconnecting from the hustle and taking a moment to be with yourself and other community members. If you have thoughts and feelings of being disconnected, uncertain of what to say, what to talk about, not wanting to go alone, this event is a safe space for you practice to become a more comfortable communicator. This event is free and open to anyone 16 and older.

The event will by introducing some key concepts to help you become a more effective communicator and have deeper conversations. Next, you are invited to participate in the safe, friendly, empowered space, and engage in facilitated rounds of 1-on-1 conversation by providing a topic/question for each round of conversation.

Diverse Abilities Hiring Fair | Work BC Tri-Cities

Thur, April 20 | 11:00am - 3:00pm | Evergreen Cultural Centre, Coquitlam
WorkBC Tri-Cities (Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody) invite you to the Diverse Abilities Hiring Fair (DAHF), a hiring event designed specifically for job seekers with disabilities. The event aims to connect inclusive employers with job seekers who are eager to contribute their unique skills to the local workforce. Current list of confirmed employers include: City of Vancouver, ALS Global, Covenant House Vancouver, ICBC, and more!

This hiring event is FREE and will be held in person at the Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam, BC). Limited space available, registration required.





Virtual REACH Employment Program | Douglas College

The Virtual REACH program is an Employment and Skills for Success training program for newcomers living in small towns and remote communities of BC. Join Douglas College's final cohort starting on May 1st, 2023 from the comfort of your own home.

This is an 8-week virtual skills training program through Zoom and participants will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with an Employment Coach who will provide job search support. There are 3 different class schedules (morning, evenings, Saturdays) to accommodate those that are already working. Participants will also receive a Completion Certificate and Letter of Volunteerism.

MOSAIC's 11th Annual Job Fair

MOSAIC‘s signature Annual Job Fair is celebrating its 11th anniversary, and this year is back in-person with over 70 exhibitors! You will have the opportunity to meet and connect with a wide variety of employers across different sectors and industries to find the right fit for your career goals.

Free Income Tax Clinic for Newcomers and Low Income Families| MOSAIC

MOSAIC is offering free income tax clinics for low-to-middle income families to assist with filing their tax returns and answer any tax-related questions. Schedule:
  • Mondays from 3:00PM —8:00PM
  • Fridays from 1:00PM—5:00PM

Location: 5575 Boundary Road, Burnaby
Language assistance and translation service available for those who need it

Newcomer Bike Mentorship Program - Info Session| ISS of BC

ISS of BC and Hub Cycling are offering a free mentoring program that matches newcomers with local experienced cyclists (Bike Mentors). Pairs meet weekly and take part in bike activities.

Bikes, helmets locks and lights are provided at the start of the program. Meet other locals and newcomers through group cycling events, improve your English and learn about cycling in Metro Vancouver!

"Know Your Rights" Workshop for Temporary Foreign Workers in BC | ISS of BC

Sat, April 22 | 10:00am - 11:30am | Online
Join Jonathon Braun, a Staff Lawyer at Migrant Workers Centre to learn about:
  • Temporary Foreign Workers' rights
  • Employment Standards Act and human rights law 
  • The rights of individuals facing sexual harassment in the workplace
  • Assistance offered by Migrant Workers Centre




English as an Additional Language - ESL Pathways Program Info Session | Vancouver Community College

ESL Pathways at Vancouver Community College is an intensive English program (Canadian Language Benchmark Levels 5-9) designed to help students learn the English skills they need to work, study, and participate in everyday life. Volunteer Opportunity: Multicultural Youth Circle - Info Session

Join this information session to learn more about the Multicultural Youth Circle Program hosted by the Immigrant Services Society of BC! MY Circle is a free leadership skills program for immigrant and refugee youth. Open to newcomer youth (14 to 24 years old) & Permanent Residents. As a participant, you will:
  • Gain volunteer hours and certificates of completion
  • Obtain a reference letter
  • Gain new experiences and discuss issues facing newcomers
  • Learn more about your community resources
