Diversity in Books: Book Club
April 7, 2021 (Wed) | 6:30 - 8:00 pm

TCLIP, in partnership with Coquitlam Public Library, will host the book club session in April for Diversity in Books - a book club to read diverse voices.

Our book of the month in April is Requiem by Frances Itani.

About the book:

“The personal history Itani has chosen for Bin (the main character of the book) allows for a comprehensive retelling, in quotidian detail, of the injustices imposed on Japanese Canadians living on the West Coast during the Second World War: the suspension of civil rights, seizure of property and hardships imposed upon those of Japanese ancestry are all covered, as are various incidents of casual and systemic racism. Itani has done her research well (…) and Bin's camp experiences are vividly rendered.” - The Globe and Mail
