First Major Typhoons... Now Major Earthquakes!

The month of September 2025 will truly be known for its 5 major typhoons, which ravaged the Philippines causing widespread death and destruction!  Now October 2025 will be known as the month of widespread devastation from a flurry of major earthquakes throughout the islands.

The first was September 30th,  but major tremors and strong aftershocks have continued with the latest being on Saturday night October 12th.  The majority of the Philippines sits on a very active major fault line which runs mostly north and south.  Interestingly though, the far western island of Palawan tends to get very few quakes (see the graphic below) with all the quake activity happening in the main islands east of Palawan!

This quote from a local Filipino church is indicative of the call for prayer at this time:
"With multiple earthquakes shaking the Philippines, it can be tempting to fear and doubt God's goodness. But our God remains unchanging in character; our firm foundation in every calamity. Let’s unite our hearts in prayer for the affected communities and those leading the response efforts."

Initiating Training Among the EBC Preaching Team!

I recently found out about a local church men's conference which features a pre-conference seminar on a particular topic. This year's topic is "On Expository Preaching".  The lectures will be archived and available online.  Thus, after I attend on October 24th, I will be arranging a gathering of our Emmanuel Baptist Church Preaching Team in Manila to watch and learn from these lectures together.  Then we will have several "Zoom" meetings to discuss the principles taught on sermon prep and delivery.  Our good friend Brother Yutaka Matsumoto, EBC's Chairman of the Deacon Board, has agreed to help me set this up!  The EBC Preachers are always looking to improve their skills and this affords us a fantastic opportunity.  Thanks for praying!

Latest Prayer & Praise Bookmark Available

In addition to our email updates in the form of "The Manila E-quipper", we have been  striving to provide a quarterly Clark Prayer & Praise Bookmark, which allows one to print it and cut out 3 bookmarks from one PDF sheet.  Supporters are encouraged to place these as a reminder in their Bibles, on the fridge or in that place where they tend to spend their time of extended prayer and devotions!   We hope you will prevail mightily in prayer with and for us and for this ministry!  Click on the image of the bookmark below to go to our ministry website and there you can find and download to print our Fall 2025 Prayer & Praise Bookmark.  Thanks for praying!

Seminary Hosts Training Lectures in Church Music & Worship!

From our seminary's Facebook page ...
"W
e were incredibly honored to welcome Dr. Richard A. Nichols to campus yesterday! (9/25)... [🎶] ...Dr. Nichols, the Dean of Professional and Technical Programs at Tyler Junior College and Choral Editor for the Fred Bock Music Company, shared his inspiring journey that blends the concert hall and the classroom. He spoke during our chapel hour and gave a special lecture to our music students, joined by Pastor Christian Sampol.  What a treat for our community and a fantastic learning opportunity!"

Please continue to pray for Dr. Jared Mongcal and the seminary's Church Music and Worship Department, as well as the popular chorale ministries, as they are being used by the Lord with widespread influence among churches!  Thanks for praying!

Please Pray and Join Our Support Team!

The Lord is graciously allowing us to continue this work of teaching, training, mentoring and equipping a new generation of Filipinos for His church!  We really are equipping our seminarians to answer the calling to serve in local churches and ministries as well as abroad into Asia and beyond!

As we pray we can rejoice that our seminarians graduate to fulfill their calling, with approximately...
~~ 80% pursuing pastoral church ministry or teaching,
~~ 10% serving in NGOs or Non-Church Ministries &
~~ 10% serving as missionaries (most of them in Cambodia)!

But it is not just about the degrees and academics.  Just this week I was able to go beyond the classroom assignments and, by way of email, counsel with several of my seminarians who have been seriously struggling due to ongoing family problems, recovering after a difficult hospital stay or battling against spiritual depression.

I was able to direct them to God's Word to help them with such passages as in Rom. 8:28; Phil. 1:6; Eph. 6; 2 Cor. 10:5 & 2 Peter 1:5-11.  We communicated at length about the symptoms of spiritual depression, which are brought on by various trials ... not the least of which are the many natural disasters they must endure!

Ours is a faith mission and after almost 37 years as missionaries with a vibrant support team we have seen much of Lord's faithfulness in helping us maintain this team.

We are asking the Lord at this time to add to our support team at least:
~~ 10 or more new monthly supporters at $100 = $1000/month!
~~ 10 new one-time donation donors for totaling $5000 or more!

Based on the Lord's faithfulness already we believe this is truly possible!  Will you prevail in prayer with us for this?   Thanks for praying and for supporting!
